Description: La Città dell’Utopia is an SCI Italia project based in Rome (San Paolo district) inside the Casale Garibaldi, an old country house located on a green hill in the middle of modern buildings. La città dell’Utopia is a social laboratory of active citizenship and local development.

The International Soup Festival was born in Lille in 2001. The 16th edition in Rome will be held at La Città dell’Utopia with the support of a large number of citizens and volunteers, and aims to create a moment of celebration around a unique, rich and popular dish that is known all over the world.

for people to meet and share food together on the streets of Rome, to share cultural traditions, and exchange culinary artistic dimensions.

Type of Work: 

• space preparation, including setting up and cleaning the garden and interior spaces;
• support for set construction, including setting up the stage, sound system, tables and seats;
• festival promotion support, including leafleting;
• logistical support for the festival, including presence at the bar, cash desks, kitchen;
• possibly, photographic recording of the event;
• tidying up the venue at the end of the festival;

Study Theme: The study part of the workcamp will focus mainly on the issues of conscious food purchasing and consumption that are at work at La Città dell'Utopia. They will include in-depth studies on the topics of organic, zero kilometer, solidarity purchasing groups. The objective of these days will be to support the conception of La Città dell'Utopia recipe book, through :

• Research activities and writing articles on foods and recipes from the world that are usually cooked here;
• Activities of editing the book, i.e. producing graphics and/or layouts.

Accommodation: Volunteers will be hosted at La Città dell'Utopia hostel on the first floor of the Casale Garibaldi. The rooms are mixed for a maximum of 7 volunteers per room. Beds, mattresses, pillows, sheets and blankets will be provided. Towels are not provided. The bathroom will be on the same floor and shared by the volunteers. Inside there will be 3 showers, a toilet, three sinks, two of them in the anteroom. Hot water will be provided but to be consumed in moderation. The kitchen will be on the same floor as the rooms and available for volunteers. Internet access will be provided.

Language: Spoken languages during the camp : Italian, Albanian and French
