April 4, 2025
Country: Germany
Date: 21st September – 4th October 2025
Number of Volunteers: 12
Age: 18-99
Project Code: DE-SCI 10.90
About the Project: Thousands of years ago, moors formed in the craters of some extinct volcanoes, creating special habitats between water and land. One of these moors is the Mosbrucher Weiher. In the past ditches were dug here to drain the water to enable peat extraction. When a moor dries out, rare species appear and the peat starts releasing large amounts of CO2. The aim of this project is to reveres this process by closing the ditches and restoring the water level to protect biodiversity.
Type of Work: Volunteers will help seal the ditches, remove unwanted shrubs and young trees from the moor. Volunteers will also get the opportunity to attend workshops and field studies to learn more about the importance of moors.
Accommodation: Volunteers will stay at a nearby holiday home in shared rooms.
Volunteer Requirements: Enjoyment of the outdoors and nature. Please bring rubber boots and weatherproof clothing.
No application deadline, open until all spaces are filled.
