March 14, 2025
Country: Finland
Date: 23rd June – 4th July 2025
Number of volunteers: 10
Age: 18 and over
Project code: FI-KVT 4.1
About the project: Food Not Bombs is an international campaign that works in hundreds of cities around the world. Food Not Bombs is trying to inspire the public to participate in changing and educating society by helping in a concrete way. The idea of the campaign is to focus our resources on solving problems like hunger, homelessness and poverty while seeking an end to war, continuous rearmament and the destruction of the environment. It works by giving out vegan meals in public places to anyone in need. The campaign is also closely connected to food waste issues, and much of the cooking is done with donated food.
Type of Work: Volunteers will organize five meal-sharing events around Helsinki. The volunteers’ tasks include cooking, bringing the food to the event location, giving it out during the event, and cleaning up afterwards.
Volunteers will also have the opportunity to attend discussions on the history and ideology of the Food Not Bombs, nonviolence, antimilitarism and social problems in Finland.
Accommodation: Volunteers will stay at the Peace Station in Helsinki, a hub for various peace organizations. The accommodation is basic, with volunteers sleeping on mattresses in a shared space. Please note that a sleeping bag is required. Meals will primarily consist of vegan food, similar to what is served at local events around the city.
Volunteer requirements: A motivation letter is required. In this letter, please explain why you wish to participate in the camp and how you hope to benefit from the experience. Additionally, share your thoughts on antimilitarism, nonviolence, and peaceful conflict resolution, as these themes are central to the camp. Volunteers should have a genuine interest in these values.
No application deadline, open until all spaces are filled.
