Alpinum Schatzalp, a botanical garden in Switzerland are looking for volunteers interested in environmental protection and conservation!

About the project: 

Alpinum Schatzalp, is a botanical garden located within the Art Nouveau Schatzalp mountain hotel, in the heart of the Swiss mountains. The garden is home to over 5000 different plant species from around the world.

 

Alpinum Schatzalp’s main goals are: 

  1. Conservation and collection of global plant species 
  2. Educating visitors about plant diversity 
  3. Providing a space for local recreation

Type of work: 

During your stay, you will gain hands-on experience in horticulture, with a focus on alpine gardening. Volunteers will be involved in various tasks, including: 

  • Managing and removing invasive neophytes (weeding) 
  • Building pathways 
  • Preparing compost and soil for future planting 
  • Propagating plants 
  • Maintaining garden grounds and flowerbeds 

 

Volunteers will also have the opportunity to learn from experts at Alpinum Schatzalp, particularly in plant conservation, alpine horticulture, gardening, and botanical sciences. 

 

Accommodation: 

At the on-site hotel in either shared or single rooms, depending on availability. Sheets and blankets provided. Shared toilets and showers are located on the same floor. 

 

Volunteer requirements: 

Bring sturdy shoes and appropriate work clothes. The work can be physically demanding.

VSI is a small charity and we charge a fee (€55 - €155) to volunteer on our projects, this includes food, accommodation, basic insurance whilst on the project and VSI annual membership. Volunteers pay for their own travel to the country and internal travel to/from the projects and any visa fees.  More info here.  

 

Please note, some of the descriptions mention an additional fee (of €50.00) when applying through non-SCI organisations, VSI is an SCI branch and this additional fee does not apply.  

 

No fundraising is needed to volunteer on our projects.
